Project
Retinal ganglion cells are among the neurons mostly affected in Diabetic Retinopathy. In this context, we set up a pattern-electroretinography (pERG) system for evaluating the in vivo electrical activity of ganglion cells as well as the optic nerve. This readout offers important insights regarding neuroprotection and eventually regeneration. Together with full-field ERG recordings and in combination with other morphological readouts such as retinal thickness measurements and the assessment of the retinal vasculature, a comprehensive picture of pathological alterations of the retina can be gained. In addition, these studies were supported by immunohistochemical datasets and were further correlated with systemic parameters.
