Project
PROTACs are bifunctional small molecules that target a protein of interest (POI) to an E3 ligase, thereby inducing ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of the protein. This approach shows promises in eukaryotes e.g. as cancer treatment.
GOAL: a joint project has been initiated with Research Beyond Borders to bring the PROTAC approach to the bacterial world (bacPROTAC). We aim to develop bifunctional bacPROTAC molecules that target essential POIs for degradation by bacterial proteolytic complexes. This approach could potentially be used as treatment modality against drug-resistant strains of the pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
