Dr. Stefan O., Laboratory Manager, Research & Development
My name is Dr. Stefan O. and I'm the manager of the laboratory that develops processing procedures for NBEs. In this role, I'm responsible for both the technical and disciplinary management of my staff.
I work in project-specific teams that typically comprise five to eight specialist areas plus project management. I very much appreciate our team spirit, which is pleasantly focused and forward looking. In my specialist department, I also work as part of an eight-strong management team.
8:30 am
I arrive, glance at the day's itinerary in the diary and check my e-mails.
Up to 11:30 am
I answer e-mails, organise my group's work by planning working packages and take part in group and departmental meetings.
11:30 - 12:30 pm
Joint lunch break with colleagues and then a stroll around the site to clear the mind for new tasks.
Up to 4:00 pm
I discuss current work with staff in order to be up-to-date, note possible problems and give suggestions for solutions. I also look at data from ongoing projects when I'm not busy with project meetings.
Up to 6:30 am
I write reports that document our work, develop concepts, make management arrangements or sit in project meetings.
That’s why I work for Boehringer Ingelheim
Boehringer Ingelheim appeals to me because it's a solid company undergoing exciting changes. This means there are many opportunities to help shape the company at this time. International management careers are possible and by no means unusual.
As a manager, it gives me particular pleasure to be able to drive projects forward with my highly motivated and excellently trained laboratory team.
