"The point is to show enthusiasm and a real interest in the company and the position. That is very much appreciated by Boehringer Ingelheim."
Michelle Duggan, Lab technician, Research & Development
Although I have only been working for Boehringer Ingelheim for a few months – I started in September 2014 as a lab technician – my relationship with the company goes back to 2010, where I did an industrial placement year in the oncology department. At that time I was still building up my practical skills, and that opportunity allowed me to participate in research projects as well as to learn a lot.
My typical working day at Boehringer Ingelheim
The following schedule can vary depending on the experiments carried out. Some days, planning takes more time than analysis or presentation. And I always find time to read reports and prepare statistics.
My typical day of work at Boehringer Ingelheim
8:00 am
I start working at eight and the first thing I do is take care of the lamina flow. This means that I turn it on and disinfect it every day, removing any materials that need thawing.
8:15 am
After that, I have a cup of coffee while planning my day or week. It isn´t long before I start with experimental assays, cell culture etc.
11:30 am
I have lunch with my colleagues.
12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
After lunch, it’s time to analyse data, speak to my lab leader about the tests, and discuss our next steps.
14:30 PM - 17:30 PM
The rest of the afternoon is dedicated to finishing some experiments and getting things ready for the next day.
