Discover dataland
Data science is vital to Boehringer Ingelheim’s success, and we’re revolutionizing our approach to data across the company. Read on to learn more about our exciting dataland initiative
The amount of data generated and consumed worldwide is expected to double by 2024. Boehringer Ingelheim wants to use the information from the increasing data available in a compliant way to deliver faster, better and safer solutions for people with high unmet medical needs. Data delivers important insights that can improve the way we act as a business, help to recognize correlations, patterns and behaviors in the processes and customer interactions. These data-based insights provide the Boehringer Ingelheim experts with a better understanding of what influences the business outcomes and ultimately allow to make better decisions.
Dataland helps realize these opportunities
Dataland is a company-wide initiative focused on generating value from data. Working with IT, a seamless data ecosystem is being built based on a use case-based approach, with the use cases coming from the business units. In dataland, data is sorted, cleansed, processed, and then made available in an appropriate form for all applications to be used immediately. This data can then be used to carry out data simulations and analyses as needed in a more comprehensible and simpler way. To ensure that this works, a data governance system for the relevant processes is being developed. With dataland, new opportunities for BI’s business are created and a more data-oriented mindset and culture is being nurtured.
Dataland is helping to put the patient at the heart of Boehringer Ingelheim’s approach. In using data in new and smart ways, significant improvements in the whole value chain can be enabled.
Exploring the benefits
Dataland offers a source of organized, cross-organizational information for each business area to utilize. By analyzing the data, the understanding of problems is improved and new insights and knowledge for future decision-making are generated. This is taking solution development to a new level.
Innovation Unit
“Health Care Data Analytics and Disease Translational Accelerator” will provide new insights into advanced biomarkers and genetics, disease data and broad healthcare databases. This will lead to the development of new personalized therapeutic approaches that improve patients’ quality of life.
Human Pharma Medicine
Three use cases from the Medicine Excellence program are being integrated into dataland. Medicine Excellence is a program that aims to accelerate clinical development. All of these use cases provide added value for patients, such as by optimizing the design of clinical studies (Study Design and Operational Planning), providing an improved understanding of the clinical development life cycle (Clinical Systems and Data Platform), or aggregating and visualizing study data in the “Clinical Development Cockpit”.
Animal Health
“Marketing Mix Intelligence and Gross to Net Optimization” aims to analyze pricing and discount programs to improve the targeting of marketing spend and manage pricing models more efficiently. “Optimized Pet Owner’s Customer Journeys” uses data from veterinary consultations and data from digital commerce to optimize targeting in the retail and digital space.
Human Pharma Operations
“Real Time Release Testing” automatically detects anomalies in production and forecasts product quality. “Quality Data Analytics” enables lab personnel to monitor the performance of analytical methods and systems to ensure compliance.
Human Pharma Regions
“Next Best Action” use case aims to improve the treatment of patients in collaboration with doctors and payor organizations. “Next Best Action” helps to determine the next most effective engagement for approaching health care professionals based on past contact history.
With a growing number of use cases, dataland provides an increasing number of potential benefits – from improving Boehringer Ingelheim´s animal and human patients’ well-being to reducing time to market launch of products and optimizing production. It also significantly simplifies access to and handling of data, while simultaneously improving the ability to work with data.
