The Ruhr area is grey? A home for innovations is always colorful! At the Dortmund site over 550 employees work passionately on a unique product for treating lung diseases even more effectively: The RESPIMAT® inhaler. And, because they are so successful in this work, the annual production capacity for the inhaler will grow from 25 to 44 million units by the end of 2015. Boehringer Ingelheim produces the RESPIMAT® soft inhaler, a pocket-sized inhaler based on microsystem components, at its Dortmund site. Boehringer Ingelheim microParts in Dortmund is the only manufacturing site for the RESPIMAT® worldwide.
In 2015, Boehringer Ingelheim decided to expand the facility further. The result will be an additional, flexible assembly line for producing the RESPIMAT®. This is part of a second wave of investments, for which additional 120 million euros will be invested between 2015 and 2018 in innovative RESPIMAT® technology in order to boost capacity and ensure the manufacture of the next RESPIMAT® generations. Of this, around 90 million euros has been allocated to the Dortmund facility and around 30 million euros to the Ingelheim facility.
